Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission into the Jane Long Academy Magnet Program, students must meet the following criteria:

Academic Requirements

· Matrix Score: Minimum composite matrix score of 75 or higher.

· TELPAS Requirement: Students must have a TELPAS Overall Rating of Advanced or Advanced High.

· TSI Readiness: Students must be TSI-ready by 10th grade to remain in the program.

Program-Specific Requirements

· Students pursuing an Associate Degree with Pharmacy Technician Certification must have a Social Security number and work permit as part of their degree plan.

· Students pursuing an Entry-Level 1 Certificate are not required to have a Social Security number nor a work permit.

Attendance and Behavior Requirements

· Attendance: Maintain 95% or higher attendance each semester.

· Academic Standing: Maintain passing grades in all core subjects and Magnet-related courses.

· Behavioral Standards: Maintain satisfactory conduct and citizenship in accordance with HISD and campus policies.

Commitment and Participation

· Magnet Commitment: Students must fully participate in all program requirements, field experiences, and clinical opportunities associated with their Magnet pathway.

· Parent and Student Agreement: A signed Magnet Program Agreement must be on file, acknowledging expectations for academic, behavioral, and attendance standards.

We’d love to host you for a tour, introduce you to our students and staff, and show you how hands-on healthcare learning starts right here.

Whether you're exploring middle school options or planning for high school, we’re here to answer questions and help you picture your future at Jane Long Academy.

We offer campus tours starting in November, held every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Tours begin promptly, so we ask that guests arrive 5–10 minutes early to check in at the front office.

Advance sign-up is required. A registration link will be posted closer to the start of Magnet Tour availability.

Saturday School Choice Fairs

9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Saturday Fairs showcase all magnet programs in one place for parents to learn and make selections. Two additional fairs are held in the Spring for programs with space available. In addition to the coordinators and their respective programs, a general presentation detailing the magnet application process as well as an open lab to assist parents will be available. During these events, you will be able to meet with the Magnet Coordinator, to discuss school choice options, the magnet application process and admissions, the dates and deadlines, information about Energy Institute, and to discuss if our campus is a "best-fit" school for your family as your child prepares to enter high school.
