MSAP
What is MSAP ?
The Houston ISD Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) is a 2023-2028 grant-funded initiative focused on strengthening STEM and medical curriculum across six middle schools to enhance academic standards and increase diversity. The program aims to reduce minority group isolation and provide specialized, rigorous instruction.
Key Aspects of the HISD MSAP Initiative:
- Target Schools: The project focuses on six middle schools, enhancing them with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or STEM + Medical programs.
- Objectives: Goals include increasing academic achievement, fostering diverse student populations, and building capacity for specialized, theme-based learning.
- Grant Funding: The initiative is supported by the federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program, designed to support school choice and desegregation efforts.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide specialized educational options within the Houston Independent School District.

Hi! I'm Ms. Weber, and I'm excited to be part of
the Jane Long Academy family. I teach 6th grade
Robotics and 7th grade Anatomy & Physiology as
part of the MSAP (Medical Science and Pharmacy
Magnet) program. I love hands-on learning,
problem-solving, and helping students discover
their interests in STEM, engineering, and the
medical field. I'm passionate about creating
a supportive, engaging, and inclusive classroom
where every student feels capable, confident,
and ready to achieve.

Campus Impact
The Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) has had a significant and lasting impact on Jane Long Academy by strengthening our STEM+M magnet program and expanding access to high-quality STEM, medical, engineering, and technology learning opportunities for our students. Through MSAP funding and resources, our campus has been able to provide students with greater access to innovative technology, specialized curriculum, and hands-on experiences that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom.
MSAP has helped grow and enhance our magnet program by increasing access to student technology, robotics equipment, drones, medical resources, and hands-on STEM materials. Students are given opportunities to design, build, program, test, explore, and improve their own creations. These experiences strengthen problem-solving, critical-thinking, collaboration, communication, and engineering skills while allowing students to apply what they learn in meaningful, real-world situations.
A major focus of MSAP at Jane Long is the integration of STEM and Medical education. Through our STEM+M pathway, students are introduced to engineering, robotics, medical science, anatomy and physiology, and bioscience. These experiences allow students to explore both engineering and healthcare-related careers while developing the academic and technical skills needed to continue into advanced programs in high school, college, and beyond.
MSAP has also expanded our robotics and emerging-technology opportunities. Through robotics kits, drones, technology, competitions, and specialized instruction, students move beyond simply learning about technology—they actively design, program, operate, test, troubleshoot, and compete with it. Robotics and STEM competitions give students opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, work collaboratively under real-world conditions, solve complex challenges, and build confidence in their abilities.
The medical component of Jane Long’s STEM+M program provides another layer of hands-on learning. Students have opportunities to explore anatomy and physiology, bioscience, health science, and medical technology, helping them understand how science and technology work together in healthcare. These experiences expose students to future careers in medicine, nursing, biomedical science, health technology, engineering, and other growing fields.
Collectively, these investments have helped Jane Long Academy create a stronger, more engaging magnet experience. MSAP has provided the resources necessary to turn innovative ideas into meaningful student experiences while increasing access to opportunities that may otherwise have been unavailable to many of our students.
Most importantly, MSAP is helping us build a program where students are not simply consumers of technology—they are becoming creators, designers, engineers, programmers, future healthcare professionals, problem-solvers, and innovators. Through increased access to robotics, drones, medical science, engineering, competitions, specialized instruction, and hands-on learning, MSAP continues to strengthen Jane Long Academy’s ability to prepare students with the skills, experiences, and confidence needed for future success.
At Jane Long Academy, MSAP is creating pathways to possibilities—preparing tomorrow’s STEM and medical professionals, today!
